What parents say
With my first pregnancy I went the OB & hospital route, now pregnant again I wanted to opt for a better experience where birth is embraced as something our bodies can do and not a medical procedure that has a strict timeline and a medical record number.
We had a complicated pregnancy and birth, but Tamara helped us with incredible grace and she cared for us through the entire experience. We had originally planned to give birth at Tamara's birth center, A Family Affair, but with the 20-week anatomy scan we received a tragic diagnosis.
As a Doula I love when my clients choose to use A family Affair Birth Center. The midwifes are amazing. They value the birthing couple as well as the Doula. I look forward to many more births at the Birth Center.
A Family Affair Birth Center will always hold a special place in my heart. Especially Tamara. I knew since before becoming pregnant I wanted to have a midwife. Unfortunately, in order to appease my in laws I tried going the "normal" route with an obgyn.
Frequently asked questions
- Is A Family Affair Birth Center a freestanding birth center or a hospital unit?
- A Family Affair Birth Center is a freestanding birth center — a facility separate from a hospital. Freestanding birth centers typically serve low-risk pregnancies and have a hospital-transfer plan in place; ask A Family Affair Birth Center about theirs, and confirm with your provider that a birth-center birth fits your situation.
- Does A Family Affair Birth Center offer water birth?
- Water birth or birthing tubs come up in their public listing or reviews. Tub availability can change and eligibility depends on your situation, so confirm directly with the facility and your provider.
- Does A Family Affair Birth Center accept insurance or Medicaid?
- Their public listing or website mentions insurance or Medicaid. Coverage varies by plan and by service, so verify your specific plan directly with the facility and your insurer before you commit.
- How do I get in touch or see the facility?
- Call +1 858-746-8497 or use the website link above. Most birth centers and hospital maternity units offer tours — it's the best way to get your questions answered before you decide.
