Where to find Birth in Color
What parents say
Alexis is our Birth in Color RVA doula and we are so grateful for her! Leading up to our birth, she was available and generous with her time and energy. And when my labor was extremely prolonged due to unforeseen complications, she was our angel!
Words cannot describe how grateful I am to have had Toccara as my doula. She was not only a strong advocate at my appointments, but she checked on me regularly and always made me feel supported. When my contractions intensified, she rushed to my house and helped me relax.
My doula Charmaine Henry was always a phone call away when I needed someone. She made me feel more than just a client and to me I see her as family not a doula. She is the nicest and most caring person I could've asked to be apart of my birthing experience.
My doula, Amber has become more than that to me, she is considered family now. From the beginning she has assured and comforted me in my pregnancy process, answering all of my questions, removing all of my fears of the "unknown", educating me and my partner on ALL things pregnancy & postpartum, and even mental health.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Birth in Color a freestanding birth center or a hospital unit?
- Birth in Color is a freestanding birth center — a facility separate from a hospital. Freestanding birth centers typically serve low-risk pregnancies and have a hospital-transfer plan in place; ask Birth in Color about theirs, and confirm with your provider that a birth-center birth fits your situation.
- Does Birth in Color offer water birth?
- Water birth isn't mentioned in the public information we have for Birth in Color. If a birthing tub matters to you, ask the facility directly — options change, and our data may not capture everything they offer.
- Does Birth in Color accept insurance or Medicaid?
- We couldn't confirm insurance details from public information. Ask the facility which plans they accept, and check with your insurer about coverage for the type of birth care you're planning.
- How do I get in touch or see the facility?
- Call (804) 840-6435 or use the website link above. Most birth centers and hospital maternity units offer tours — it's the best way to get your questions answered before you decide.
