What parents say
I had an amazing experience at CBP. After transferring care from MUSC just before 20 weeks, I was given the best of care. All of the midwives took their time with me at every appointment, listening and responding with great detail and care.
We just welcomed our first baby on August 6th and I am just so happy with how everything turned out. We enjoyed our entire time with the birth center and am so grateful I was able to have my dream natural birth with the help of Kim, Erin, and Ivy.
Honestly wish I could give them more than 5 stars!! I just had my baby here on March 1st. When I found out I was pregnant, I had a friend who had her baby here and she had a great experience.
Could not have asked for a better experience! I opted to use Charleston Birth Place during my first pregnancy due to the intimate approach in care and the ability to move about and eat/drink while laboring.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Charleston Birth Place a freestanding birth center or a hospital unit?
- Charleston Birth Place is a freestanding birth center — a facility separate from a hospital. Freestanding birth centers typically serve low-risk pregnancies and have a hospital-transfer plan in place; ask Charleston Birth Place about theirs, and confirm with your provider that a birth-center birth fits your situation.
- Does Charleston Birth Place offer water birth?
- Their own website mentions water birth or birthing tubs. Tub availability can change and eligibility depends on your situation, so confirm directly with the facility and your provider.
- Does Charleston Birth Place accept insurance or Medicaid?
- Their public listing or website mentions insurance or Medicaid. Coverage varies by plan and by service, so verify your specific plan directly with the facility and your insurer before you commit.
- How do I get in touch or see the facility?
- Call +1 843-818-1123 or use the website link above. Most birth centers and hospital maternity units offer tours — it's the best way to get your questions answered before you decide.
