What parents say
I would highly recommend Samm and her team at Magpi Midwifery! Throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, I felt supported in a way I have never experienced with traditional doctors. Every question I asked was answered without pressure or fear-mongering. I always felt well-informed and in control of my care.
Samm and her team at Magpi Midwifery are absolute birth rockstars! Pregnant with my first child, my husband and I came to see Samm after a very unsatisfactory initial visit with a traditional OBGYN. The contrast between my first appointment there and my first appointment with Magpi Midwifery was a stark contrast!
I feel incredibly blessed to have been able to have Samm as my midwife with my most recent pregnancy and birth. This was my first experience away from the traditional medical system and attempting a VBAC/HBAC. Without Samm, I imagine my experience would have been so different and not as life-giving.
After I became pregnant with my second and after my first birth in a hospital setting (anticipated unmedicated turned induced and needing epidural), having a home birth was always in the back of my head during the beginning of this pregnancy. One morning I woke up, and followed my heart.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Magpi Midwifery a freestanding birth center or a hospital unit?
- Magpi Midwifery is a freestanding birth center — a facility separate from a hospital. Freestanding birth centers typically serve low-risk pregnancies and have a hospital-transfer plan in place; ask Magpi Midwifery about theirs, and confirm with your provider that a birth-center birth fits your situation.
- Does Magpi Midwifery offer water birth?
- Their own website mentions water birth or birthing tubs. Tub availability can change and eligibility depends on your situation, so confirm directly with the facility and your provider.
- Does Magpi Midwifery accept insurance or Medicaid?
- We couldn't confirm insurance details from public information. Ask the facility which plans they accept, and check with your insurer about coverage for the type of birth care you're planning.
- Where does Magpi Midwifery work?
- They're a service-area practice based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — rather than a single facility address, they serve families across the area. Ask whether your location falls inside their coverage when you inquire.
- How do I get in touch or see the facility?
- Call (610) 552-4784 or use the website link above. Most birth centers and hospital maternity units offer tours — it's the best way to get your questions answered before you decide.
