Where to find San Francisco Birth Center
What parents say
I don’t think I have enough words to express how happy and grateful I am to have chosen SF Birth Center as my medical care team for this pregnancy. The level of dedication of their whole team towards not just your physical but your emotional health is unparalleled.
The best place to have a normal, caring, and safe birth experience, sidestepping an overly capitalist and dysfunctional healthcare system. As an Aussie living in the Bay Area I found it strange that midwives were not guaranteed to be a part of childbirths in hospitals.
The perfect middle ground between a hospital birth and home birth, which was exactly what I was looking for. It was all I hoped for and more. The midwives are compassionate, kind, and supportive women who are knowledge and prioritize the health and safety of mom and baby.
If I could give the SFBC six stars I would. Every pregnant person should experience the quality of prenatal, birth and postpartum care you receive at the SFBC. Simply the best midwifery care there is in San Francisco.
Frequently asked questions
- Is San Francisco Birth Center a freestanding birth center or a hospital unit?
- San Francisco Birth Center is a freestanding birth center — a facility separate from a hospital. Freestanding birth centers typically serve low-risk pregnancies and have a hospital-transfer plan in place; ask San Francisco Birth Center about theirs, and confirm with your provider that a birth-center birth fits your situation.
- Does San Francisco Birth Center offer water birth?
- Water birth or birthing tubs come up in their public listing or reviews. Tub availability can change and eligibility depends on your situation, so confirm directly with the facility and your provider.
- Does San Francisco Birth Center accept insurance or Medicaid?
- Their public listing or website mentions insurance or Medicaid. Coverage varies by plan and by service, so verify your specific plan directly with the facility and your insurer before you commit.
- How do I get in touch or see the facility?
- Call +1 415-780-0848 or use the website link above. Most birth centers and hospital maternity units offer tours — it's the best way to get your questions answered before you decide.
