Where to find Tempe Birth Center
What parents say
Due to the extremely high mortality rates that black women face, I knew early on that I didn't want a hospital birth, but went against my instincts and spent the first five months with an OBGYN (see below). I researched many of the birthing centers in the valley and toured one of them.
I highly recommend Tempe Birth Center. They were with me every step of the way. Even towards the end of my pregnancy when I had to go to the hospital because I wasn’t dilating. They called and checked up on me and recommended the best doctors.
My entire pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum care was absolutely perfect with Tempe Birth Center. They were very hands-off as well as very aware of my needs throughout (both were the most important things to me). Both Wendi and Kate are so kind, respectful, knowledgeable, and have spirits of healing about them.
I used TBC for my second birth and will use them for my next pregnancy. I went to Willow Birth center for my first pregnancy and really prefer the care I received at Tempe Birth Center. All of the midwives were so knowledgeable and passionate about their work.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Tempe Birth Center a freestanding birth center or a hospital unit?
- Tempe Birth Center is a freestanding birth center — a facility separate from a hospital. Freestanding birth centers typically serve low-risk pregnancies and have a hospital-transfer plan in place; ask Tempe Birth Center about theirs, and confirm with your provider that a birth-center birth fits your situation.
- Does Tempe Birth Center offer water birth?
- Their own website mentions water birth or birthing tubs. Tub availability can change and eligibility depends on your situation, so confirm directly with the facility and your provider.
- Does Tempe Birth Center accept insurance or Medicaid?
- Their public listing or website mentions insurance or Medicaid. Coverage varies by plan and by service, so verify your specific plan directly with the facility and your insurer before you commit.
- How do I get in touch or see the facility?
- Call (480) 647-2099 or use the website link above. Most birth centers and hospital maternity units offer tours — it's the best way to get your questions answered before you decide.
