Where The Birthing Place works
What parents say
After having 2 csections and wanting a vaginal birth with my 3rd pregnancy to avoid another surgery , it was difficult finding someone who would accept me as a patient. When I stumbled upon The Birthing Center and met Afua, I was beside myself at the love and how family oriented it felt.
If you are planning an unmedicated vaginal birth outside of a hospital, Afua and her staff are absolutely incredible. Afua has cultivated a vibrant community of families who support one another through meetings for moms, dads, and other family members, as well as classes on everything from breastfeeding to cloth…
Ms Afua is simply God sent and amazing! Choosing her to be my midwife was the best decision I've ever made. I don't regret flying all the way from Nigeria to Houston for her services.
Afua helped deliver our last 2 babies and it was a blessing to have her. Our water births were much easier and less stressful with her comforting presence and immense experience. Not only is she an extremely knowledgeable midwife but she has the compassion, intuition and care to make each client feel at ease.
Frequently asked questions
- Is The Birthing Place a freestanding birth center or a hospital unit?
- The Birthing Place is a freestanding birth center — a facility separate from a hospital. Freestanding birth centers typically serve low-risk pregnancies and have a hospital-transfer plan in place; ask The Birthing Place about theirs, and confirm with your provider that a birth-center birth fits your situation.
- Does The Birthing Place offer water birth?
- Water birth or birthing tubs come up in their public listing or reviews. Tub availability can change and eligibility depends on your situation, so confirm directly with the facility and your provider.
- Does The Birthing Place accept insurance or Medicaid?
- We couldn't confirm insurance details from public information. Ask the facility which plans they accept, and check with your insurer about coverage for the type of birth care you're planning.
- Where does The Birthing Place work?
- They're a service-area practice based in Iowa Colony, Texas — rather than a single facility address, they serve families across the area. Ask whether your location falls inside their coverage when you inquire.
- How do I get in touch or see the facility?
- Call +1 713-635-9987. Most birth centers and hospital maternity units offer tours — it's the best way to get your questions answered before you decide.
