What this center offers
“I was very curious about water birth there and I tried it when I was having contractions!”
“We recently went through a really tough 22-hour labor, and honestly, we couldn't have gotten through it without the phenomenal support of midwives Cindy, Audrey, and Julia.”
“It was important for me to be able to try a natural birth but I wanted to be near an hospital to feel really safe.”
“I liked this place because it enables to have an experience like a home birth experience but you are more surrounded and it is close of an hospital if anything goes not as planned.”
“I delivered my healthy, beautiful baby boy and was supported by my doula and the wonderful midwives who were present, Cindy and Ellen.”
“Apart from prenatal appointments, you can also join their prenatal groups where they learn everything from labor/delivery to breastfeeding and caring for newborns.”

What parents say
My husband and I agree that discovering Pacifica and deciding to receive care and give birth here was the best decision of my life. I gave birth naturally to healthy baby all thanks to the amazing team of midwives and student midwives.
Our family loved the experience of caring for my pregnancy and childbirth with the team and at this space at Pacifica. Through pregnancy we had an extraordinary care experience. The prenatal classes and individual midwife care were more than what we dreamed for.
Wow, they are awesome! My wife wanted to have natural childbirth. She didn't want to give birth in a hospital, but was not ready for a home birth either. We ended up with Pacifica Maternity Center. They were honestly attentive, careful, sounded most understanding, experienced and trustworthy.
I honestly cannot say enough good things about my experience at Pacifica! This review is overdue–I have a 7-month-old now. One of the other reviewers said that choosing to give birth at Pacifica was the best decision of their life. I concur that it was one of the best decisions of mine.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Pacifica Family Birth Center a freestanding birth center or a hospital unit?
- Pacifica Family Birth Center is a freestanding birth center — a facility separate from a hospital. Freestanding birth centers typically serve low-risk pregnancies and have a hospital-transfer plan in place; ask Pacifica Family Birth Center about theirs, and confirm with your provider that a birth-center birth fits your situation.
- Does Pacifica Family Birth Center offer water birth?
- Their own website mentions water birth or birthing tubs. Tub availability can change and eligibility depends on your situation, so confirm directly with the facility and your provider.
- Does Pacifica Family Birth Center accept insurance or Medicaid?
- Their public listing or website mentions insurance or Medicaid. Coverage varies by plan and by service, so verify your specific plan directly with the facility and your insurer before you commit.
- How do I get in touch or see the facility?
- Call (510) 280-5543 or use the website link above. Most birth centers and hospital maternity units offer tours — it's the best way to get your questions answered before you decide.
